Diagnostic Imaging

Diagnostic Imaging Services provided at SHHA include: X-ray, Bone Mineral Density Testing, Ultrasound, Electrocardiogram, Holter Monitors/Loop Recordings, and Pulmonary Function Testing.


Hours of Operation
Monday - Friday 0700 to 1900 Saturday, Sunday & Statutory Holidays 0900 to 1300
Ultrasounds will be booked Mon. – Fri. only.
After regular working hours and all statutory holidays, the Department will be staffed by “on-call” personnel for emergencies only.
  
Patients seen in the Family Practice Clinic and Doctor’s offices should be directed to call the Department during regular working hours to arrange their appointment. Walk-in Patients requiring x-rays will be done as soon as possible with the exception of those examinations requiring patient preparation - these will be scheduled at the earliest available time. 
 
Patients are required to present with their health card and requisition to Diagnostic Imaging,
10 minutes before their appointment time for registration.
 
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE YOUR REQUISITION, THE PROCEDURE WILL NOT BE DONE!
 
Patients will be referred to their Family Physician for follow up, unless instructed otherwise on the requisition – (i.e. to return to family practice clinic).
 
 
Bone Mineral Density
Appointments are necessary for all Bone Mineral Density Testing.
  
    
X-ray
Emergency patients requiring x-rays which can be deferred until the next morning, will be asked to return between 7:30 - 8:15 a.m., Monday through Friday and 9:15 - 9:30 a.m. on the week-end. 
 
 
Ultrasound
Patients requiring an ultrasound procedure should be directed to call the department during regular hours and an appointment for the procedure will be made at the earliest booking available.
  
Preparations for ultrasound procedures: 
  1.  Abdominal Ultrasound: Nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before the ultrasound examination.
  2. Renal & Aorta Ultrasound: No preparation required.
  3. Obstetrical or Pelvic Ultrasound: Finish 40 ounces of water 1 ½ hours before the appointment time.

Do not empty the bladder from this time until after the appointment has been completed.

 
Preparations for gastric procedures:
 
Patients should refer to instructions on the requisition for Upper GI, Barium Swallow, and Barium Enema procedures.
