Infection Control and Occupational Health

The purpose of the Infection Control Services is to reduce the risk of infections and related adverse events among patients, staff, visitors and other hospital users. Patient and staff safety is a priority at SHHA, and every effort is made to prevent the spread of infection for both patients and staff.

SHHA works closely with the Huron County Health Unit to ensure our service delivery is as comprehensive as possible, to minimize the number of patients who develop infection and to reduce the possibility of transmission.

Of particular importance is the control of antibiotic- resistant bacteria such as C. difficile, VRE and MRSA. The bacteria are of concern to health care providers as they are resistant to a large number of antibiotics commonly used to treat infections
